Musicians join music fans in SLAM (Save Live Australia's Music) rally

Commencing at 4pm today, musicians, music industry people and music fans alike protested, in the thousands against new liquor licensing laws. These laws are threatening to close down live music venues that simply can't afford to stay open for business. Thousands of punters joined in the protest as they think it's unfair these venues are targeted as 'high risk'. They argue that the violence in recent times has occurred in the city around the club venues rather than the music venues. Starting at the State Library in the city and concluding at Parliament steps, the rally involved a walk from the former venue to the latter, whilst paying homage to AC/DC's "It's a long way to the top (if you wanna rock and roll)." The songs film clip was filmed 34 years ago, on the same street where the rally was held! Spiderbait's, Kram, The Living End's, Scott Owen, Paul Kelly, Tim Rogers and Missy Higgins were just some of the musicians rallying amongst the music fans today.

Earlier in the day, Victorian Premier John Brumby announced that a proposal has been made to relax the new laws to benefit these music venues; organisers felt they still wanted to be heard, so went on with commencing the rally. So far, these laws have closed down much beloved venues including The Arthouse and The Tote. If these laws are not abolished, your favourite venue may be the next to shut down... You wouldn't want to see that happening, would you?
